This 1973 Saab Sonett III is finished in green over brown vinyl and cloth upholstery and powered by a 1.7L V4 paired with a four-speed manual transaxle. Equipment includes a Weber 34 ICH carburetor, 15” alloy wheels, Euro-style bumpers, pop-up headlights, bullet-style side mirrors, an aftermarket exhaust system, and an Audiovox AM/FM cassette stereo. The car was acquired by the seller on BaT in October 2017, and subsequent work is said to have included repairing the tachometer and replacing the radiator and ignition coil. This Sonett III is now offered with an owner’s manual, workshop manuals, spare parts, service records beginning in 1996, and a clean California title in the name of the seller’s museum.
The car is finished in green and equipped with pop-up headlights, dual side mirrors, pop-out quarter windows, and a single exhaust outlet. Reproduction European-market bumpers were installed in 2012 during prior ownership. The headlight housings and door edges were also repaired at that time, and touch-up paint was applied to the body. The rocker panels are said to have been replaced in 2013, and a replacement trunk floor was installed in 2007. A crack is present around the left rear quarter window, and paint chips, bubbling, and blemishes around the car are shown up close in the gallery. The seller notes that the windshield washer pump is inoperable.
Silver-finished 15” alloy wheels wear Saab center caps and are mounted with 145-series Michelin XZX tires that show date codes from 2003. Stopping power is provided by disc brakes up front and drums out back.
The cabin features fixed-back bucket seats trimmed in brown vinyl with cloth inserts as well as color-coordinated door panels and carpets. An Audiovox Rampage AM/FM cassette stereo is connected to speakers in the door panels and the cargo area.
The three-spoke steering wheel frames VDO instrumentation consisting of a 120-mph speedometer, a tachometer with a 5,500-rpm redline, and a combination gauge. The five-digit odometer shows 73k miles, and true mileage is unknown. The speedometer and tachometer were repaired in 2022.
The 1.7-liter V4 is equipped with a Weber 34 ICH carburetor, Pertronix electronic ignition, and an electric fuel pump. The radiator, ignition coil, and spark plugs are said to have been replaced under current ownership, and an oil change was performed in preparation for the sale.
Power is sent to the front wheels through a four-speed manual transaxle, and the freewheel clutch has been disabled. The clutch hydraulics were rebuilt in 2012 and an aftermarket exhaust system was also installed at that time. Additional underside photos are provided in the gallery.
An owner’s manual, workshop manuals, a spare distributor cap and rotor, and records beginning in 1996 are included in the sale.
The car is titled in the state of California but is not currently registered.
