This 1972 Fiat 124 Sport Spider is an early chrome bumper example that has been restored with new orange paint and a very clean stock interior. The 1600cc twin cam 4-cylinder engine is largely stock and sits in a nicely detailed engine bay. The car is said to be a strong driver on the road, and overall this Pininfirina designed roadster presents as a sharp 124 that would make for a fun weekend driver.
The body shows no signs of accidents or dings, and the new paint only has a few small rock chips that are hard to spot with the naked eye. Note the thin black pinstripes. These early model 124’s feature the desirable small chrome bumpers, which are in excellent condition here.
The black vinyl soft top is also in very good condition with a clear rear window – see photos below.
Believed to be a 3 owner car, it was originally painted in Oriental Yellow #294 (as can be seen on the data card in the engine bay), but the bright orange looks good with American Racing 13″ rims. Stopping is achieved with four-wheel disc brakes.
The interior shows well with no cracks on the dash nor tears on the seats. The well-kept wood trim houses original Veglia Borletti black faced gauges as well as a Sanyo AM/FM/Cassette stereo. All gauges function properly, but it should be noted that the windshield wipers are currently inoperable.
The 1600cc double overhead cam 4-cylinder engine has been thoroughly detailed. This engine was designed by ex-Ferrari chief engineer Aurelio Lampredi and had one of the longest production runs in the car maker’s history. It was also the first DOHC to feature reinforced rubber timing belts. Fiat literature is included in the sale, including the original Fiat Sales Brochure and the “U.S. Version Supplement to the Instruction Book.”
Many good lift shots are viewable below which show a solid underbody.
