EQUIPMENT AND FEATURES
- The DS420 was introduced in 1968 and continued in production almost unchanged until 1992. It was widely used as an official state car all over the world.
- This example is finished in white with a fluted chrome radiator grille over a grey and black leather-trimmed cabin with burr walnut inlays.
- A central partition separates the front and rear cabins and features a vanity mirror, drop-down storage compartments, and drink holders.
- A modern air conditioning system has been installed, as well as a retro-styled Daimler-branded stereo which offers Bluetooth and DAB compatibility.
- It is accompanied by the owner’s manual, repair and workshop manuals, service history, various invoices, spare wheel, and jack.
CONDITION
- There is no known bodywork damage.
- The condition of the paintwork is described as good, with a few imperfections including a paint bubble next to the left-hand side fuel filler cap, and some paint cracking on the driver’s side front quarter and rear bumper bracket.
- The wheels present well overall, and around 3-4mm of tread remains on the tyres.
- The reupholstered interior is in good order, with signs of wear on the seats and armrests, showing a general time-warned ‘patina’ plus some small marks.
- No mechanical or electrical faults have been detected.
- The most recent roadworthiness inspection was carried out in July 2021 and is said to have resulted in a clean pass.
SERVICE HISTORY
- WJR Automotive carried out a service and tune-up in August 2021.
- In January 2021, a major service was performed, which included replacing the spark plugs and tuning the carburettor.
- The rear suspension was rebuilt in October 2020.
SUMMARY
This is a handsome example of the regal Daimler DS420; a much-loved luxury car that continued in production almost unchanged for 24 years. This well-presented example has been carefully upgraded with modern air conditioning and stereo systems for increased day-to-day usability, but retains its trademark blend of luxury, comfort, and elegance. It would make an interesting addition to any assembly of classic cars, as well as a stylish mode of transport for special occasions.
