1968 Citroën DS 19

This 1968 Citroën ID19 is a European-market example that was refurbished under prior ownership in France before being imported to the US in 2023. The car is finished in blue over yellow cloth upholstery and is powered by a 1,985cc inline-four paired with a four-speed manual transaxle. Further equipment includes a hydropneumatic suspension, power steering, 15” wheels, directional headlights, stainless-steel bumpers, a removable front armrest, and a Continental Edison radio. Service in the Netherlands prior to importation involved repairing the Solex carburetor and replacing a suspension sphere and engine mount along with the water pump and spark plugs. Recently acquired by the selling dealer, this ID19 is now offered in Connecticut at no reserve with an owner’s manual, tools, refurbishment photos, service records, and a clean Arizona title.

Body panels were removed and repaired before a repaint in blue with a cream roof during the aforementioned refurbishment in France. Exterior details include covered directional headlights, corrugated aluminum trim, and stainless-steel bumpers with black rubber guards. Cracks are visible on the door window seals, and the interior access panel for the left-side headlight housing is missing. The selling dealer notes scratches at the base of the windshield.

Gray 15” steel wheels wear domed stainless-steel hubcaps and are mounted with 185-series Michelin XVS tires. The car is equipped with power-assisted steering and rides on a self-leveling, height-adjustable hydropneumatic suspension with parallel semi-leading arms up front and trailing arms out back. Stopping power is provided by inboard-mounted front discs and rear drums. One of the suspension spheres was replaced in 2022 by The Classic Way of Hilversum in the Netherlands.

The cabin features front bucket seats and a rear bench trimmed in yellow cloth with color-coordinated door panels. Gray padded carpets line the floors, and a European-frequency Continental Edison radio is located on the right side of the dash. The clock is inoperative, and a tear in the left-side sill cover as well as discoloration on the headliner can be viewed in the gallery.

The single-spoke steering wheel frames Jaeger instrumentation consisting of a sweeping 180-km/h speedometer and auxiliary gauges. The five-digit odometer shows 28k kilometers (~17k miles), and true mileage is unknown.

The 1,985cc inline-four is mounted behind the transaxle. Work performed in 2022 by The Classic Way involved repairing the Solex carburetor and replacing an engine mount along with the water pump, spark plugs, engine oil, and coolant.

Power is sent to the front wheels through a column-shifted four-speed manual transaxle. Corrosion is visible on underbody components, which can be viewed in the gallery.

Photos taken at various stages of the refurbishment will accompany the car along with an owner’s manual, tools, and records dating to 2012.
