This 1963 Studebaker Avanti is one of 1,833 R2 variants produced for the 1963 and 1964 model years and is finished in red over black vinyl upholstery. Power is provided by a supercharged 289ci V8 paired with a three-speed automatic transmission, and additional equipment includes a Twin-Traction differential, 15″ wheels, front disc brakes, power steering, a dual exhaust system, electric windows, and a Blaupunkt AM/FM cassette stereo. The car was acquired by the seller in June 2022, and subsequent work is said to have involved reupholstering the seats and refurbishing the brake booster along with and replacing the battery and radiator. This Avanti R2 is now offered at no reserve with a copy of the production order and a clean Arizona title in the seller’s name.
The fiberglass body left the factory finished in Avanti Red and was repainted under previous ownership. The car wears Studebaker, Avanti, and Supercharged badging as well as chrome bumpers. Further exterior details include round headlights, fender-mounted side mirrors, and a radio antenna.
The 15″ steel wheels wear full covers along with 215/70 Hankook Mileage Plus white-line tires, and a spare is stored in the trunk. The car is equipped with power steering along with power-assisted front disc brakes and rear drums. The seller notes that the brake booster was refurbished under current ownership.
The cabin features front bucket seats and a rear bench that were reupholstered in black vinyl under current ownership. Aircraft throttle-inspired climate controls on the center console are joined by overhead switchgear for lighting and fan control. A Blaupunkt Daytona AM/FM cassette stereo is mounted in the glovebox, and additional equipment includes a low-mount rearview mirror, electric windows, and lap belts. The factory push-button AM radio remains installed but is not wired.
The two-spoke steering wheel fronts a tachometer with a 5k-rpm redline accompanied by a 140-mph speedometer, a clock, and auxiliary readouts for coolant temperature, amperage, fuel level, oil pressure, and intake manifold pressure. The five-digit odometer shows 34k miles and is said to have rolled over. Total mileage is unknown.
The 289ci Jet-thrust V8 features a Paxton supercharger and was factory rated at 290 horsepower and 303 lb-ft of torque. The seller states that the battery, radiator, and coolant expansion tank were replaced under current ownership.
Power is sent to the rear wheels through a three-speed Power-shift automatic transmission and a Twin-Traction differential. A dual exhaust system is equipped.
The production order sheet lists factory equipment, colors, and identification numbers and notes a final production date of August 21, 1962.
