This 1963 Studebaker Avanti was refurbished and modified following the seller’s acquisition in 2015. Power comes from a replacement 327ci V8 paired with a 200R4 four-speed automatic transmission, and the car has been refinished in gray over two-tone gray vinyl upholstery. Additional equipment includes a Dana 44 rear end with a Positraction differential, staggered-diameter Foose Design alloy wheels, Wilwood disc brakes, a lowered suspension, a Holley carburetor, an Edelbrock Performer intake manifold, a Velex amplifier with Bluetooth connectivity, and a Pioneer subwoofer. Work performed in preparation for the sale reportedly involved an oil change and replacement of the spark plugs. This modified Avanti is offered with a workshop manual, parts receipts, and New York registration in the seller’s name.
The car is said to have been repainted in gray under current ownership, at which time the front bumper was modified and the rear bumper was removed. Additional exterior details include round headlights, dual side mirrors, clear front turn signals, a custom mesh grille insert, and dual exhaust outlets. The wiper blade arms have been removed, and the finish on the rear window trim is peeling.
Black Foose Design alloy wheels measure 17″ in diameter up front and 20″ in the rear, and they are mounted with 225/55 front and 245/45 rear Continental ExtremeContact DWS 06 tires. Lowering springs have been installed, and braking is handled by Wilwood calipers over cross-drilled and slotted rotors at all four corners.
The cabin features bucket seats and a rear bench that have been reupholstered in two-tone gray vinyl with contrasting red stitching along with a color-coordinated dashboard, center console, and door panels. Appointments include a heater, carpeted floor mats, a glove compartment-mounted vanity mirror, a Velex amplifier with Bluetooth connectivity, a trunk-mounted Rockford Fosgate amplifier, and a Pioneer subwoofer. Corrosion is visible on the dashboard and glove box brightwork, and the headliner has separated at the rear.
The leather-wrapped two-spoke steering wheel frames a 160-mph speedometer, a tachometer, an analog clock, and auxiliary gauges for coolant temperature, amperage, fuel level, oil pressure, and vacuum pressure. Corrosion is visible on the gauge bezels. The five-digit mechanical odometer shows 17k miles, approximately 2k of which were added under current ownership. Total mileage is unknown.
The replacement 327ci V8 was installed in place of the original 289ci V8 under current ownership. Equipment includes a Holley carburetor, an Edelbrock Performer intake manifold, and an aluminum radiator. The seller states that the carburetor was overhauled under current ownership, and the engine oil and spark plugs were replaced in preparation for the sale. A power steering pump leak is noted.
Power is sent to the rear wheels through a 200R4 four-speed automatic transmission and a Dana 44 rear end with a Positraction differential and a 3:73.1 gear ratio. Corrosion has perforated a rear cross member, and additional underbody photos can be seen in the gallery below.
A workshop manual along with parts receipts and a magazine are included in the sale.
The data tag affixed to the frame shows number R3623, which matches the VIN displayed on the New York registration card. The car does not have a title, as it is registered in a state that does not issue titles for vehicles of this age. It is being sold on its registration.
