This 1962 Volvo 122S was purchased new by the seller’s parents from J.E. French in San Francisco, California, and was acquired by the seller in 1971. Finished in Mist Green over a beige interior, the car is powered by a 1.8-liter B18D inline-four mated to a four-speed manual transmission. Equipment includes an aftermarket CD stereo, a color-matched dashboard, and chrome exterior trim. The car was stored from 2009 to 2015, and maintenance since includes a transmission service and the replacement of the carburetors. This 122S is now offered with literature, records, and a clean California title in the seller’s name.
The exterior has been refinished in its original Mist Green (73) and features chrome bumpers and trim, including an IPD replica side-view mirror. The seller notes a paint touch-up on the trunk lid where a dent was repaired, and there is corrosion in the spare-tire well and at the lower left-front corner of the windshield.
The color-matched steel wheels wear chrome hub caps and Michelin XZX tires. The seller notes that the front brake rotors, rear brake shoes, rear axle seals, and front upper ball joints are due for replacement.
The seats have been reupholstered in beige and are joined by a body-color dashboard, an aftermarket JVC CD stereo, and replacement speakers. A button has been added under the dash for the horn, and the driver’s seat release does not work.
The chrome-accented steering wheel fronts a 120-mph speedometer and auxiliary gauges. The dashboard lights are said to work intermittently, and the right turn signal stalk needs to be held down in order to function. The five-digit odometer has rolled over and shows 73k miles. True mileage is unknown.
The 1.8-liter B18D inline-four sends power to the rear wheels through a four-speed manual transmission. The factory SU carburetors were replaced with a Weber carburetor in 2016, and the removed units are included in the sale. Transmission work was performed in 2019 to correct a sticking gear shifter, and the transmission fluid was changed and the clutch reservoir topped off at the same time. Sound-dampening material has been added under the hood.
