The 1962 Daimler Majestic Major Limousine (DR450) is an exquisite and rare vehicle, bearing the registration no. 225 YUM, with a story that spans multiple continents and a rich history that amplifies its significance.
As the 120th model of only 864 built, this Majestic Major was originally dispatched to Italy, later becoming part of a significant private classic car collection in the country. Swiss motor dealer Lukas Huni became the next custodian of this unique Daimler in 2005. From Italy, it ventured to Switzerland, before being sold to a Chinese businessman, who relocated the vehicle to Hong Kong. In Hong Kong, the car had a vibrant life, evidenced by numerous receipts totaling over $20,000, along with photographs from a car show that highlighted its public presence in the city.
By 2012, the vehicle made its way to the UK, where it was stored for eight years. In 2020, the present vendor acquired the Daimler and reignited its active participation in car shows and events. Notably, it undertook 700-mile round trips to the prestigious Le Mans Classic in both 2022 and 2023, showcasing its capability and reliability as a road-worthy classic.
This Daimler Majestic Major boasts an odometer reading of 76,000 kilometers (approximately 47,000 miles), which is believed to be genuine. The vehicle has undergone considerable restoration, with a complete overhaul of the braking system, including new discs, pads, pipework, servo, and master cylinder. Its bodywork is described as being in very good condition, free from rust, while the chassis is reportedly excellent, having benefited from new underseal throughout.
The engine, gearbox, and drivetrain are noted to perform admirably, ensuring a smooth and pleasurable driving experience. Accompanied by a comprehensive history file, a photocopy of the handbook, original warning triangle, jack, tools, and two spare tires/tubes, this Daimler Majestic Major preserves its authenticity while offering a glimpse into its journey through various regions of the world.
Though the vehicle is in impressive condition, there are minor issues identified, including a slight engine oil leak and some steering linkage play. Despite these minor concerns, this Daimler Majestic Major stands as a testament to enduring craftsmanship, a rich history, and a compelling automotive heritage that continues to captivate and delight both enthusiasts and connoisseurs of classic automobiles.
