1959 Ford Galaxie Skyliner Convertible

This 1959 Ford Galaxie Skyliner was purchased new by the seller’s grandmother at Myers Ford Sales of Sterling, Illinois, and was inherited by the seller and subsequently transported to Colorado in 2003. The car is finished in white with a matching power-retractable hardtop over white and turquoise upholstery and is powered by a 332ci V8 mated with a Cruise-O-Matic three-speed automatic transmission. Features include power steering, power-assisted brakes, a push-button AM radio, an analog clock, 14″ steel wheels with full covers, chrome fender skirts and bumpers, tailfins, hooded headlights, and a dual exhaust system. This Fairlane Skyliner is now offered with manufacturer’s literature, Myers Ford service records, purchase documents, and a clean Colorado title in the seller’s name.

The car left the factory finished in Colonial White (E) and is said to have been repainted in the 1980s. The power-retractable “Hide-Away Hardtop” was introduced in 1957 and was available for three model years. Additional equipment includes rear fender skirts, rear tail fins, hooded headlights, a dual exhaust system with chrome finishers, and a chrome grille, mirrors, bumpers, window surrounds, and side moldings. There is evidence of body filler, corrosion, bubbling paint, and rust along the rocker panels and inner fenders, and the paint has chips, scratches, and dents.

White-finished steel 14″ wheels wear turbine-style covers and are mounted with 205/75 steel belted radial whitewall tires. The car is equipped with power steering, and braking is handled by power-assisted drums at all four corners.

The cabin features front and rear bench seats upholstered in white with turquoise cloth inserts along with a color-coordinated dashboard, door panels, and carpets. Equipment includes a heater, a front rubber floor mat, manually operated windows, vent windows, an analog clock, and a push-button AM radio. The headliner is sagging, and the front seat cover has a split seam.

The three-spoke steering wheel features a chrome horn ring and frames a horizontally-sweeping 120-mph speedometer and auxiliary gauges showing fuel level and coolant temperature.  The fuel level gauge does not work. The five-digit mechanical odometer shows 55k miles.

The 332ci V8 features a two-barrel carburetor and Ford-branded valve covers. The blue paint on the air cleaner does not match the valve covers. The seller notes that service was performed on the engine to address a stuck lifter.

Power is delivered to the rear wheels through a Cruise-O-Matic three-speed automatic transmission. Corrosion is visible on underbody components.

Original purchase documents and Myers Ford service records are included in the sale.

The vehicle serial number reveals that the car is a 1959 Fairlane 500 Hide-Away hardtop convertible built at the Dearborn, Michigan, plant and powered by a 332ci V8. The data tag shown above decodes as follows:
