1955 Renault 4CV

This 1955 Renault 4CV was purchased out of France where it had received a mild restoration by the previous owner. It looks clean inside and out and this example is fitted with optional sport wheels. ’55 falls in the middle of the model’s 14 year production run. Driven very sparingly by the seller, the car was previously in a large private collection and shows well overall. Still fitted with its original 747cc engine, the car is said to run and drive well with quick steering and tight gearbox, and comes with a clean California title.

Fully disassembled prior to being resprayed, this French-Beetle appears very straight and correct with intact trim and lighting. Panel fitment appears very good, and only minor flaws in the paintwork are noted. All four hubcaps are fitted to the 400mm wheels, which are fitted with tubeless 135/380 tires.

The car’s most obvious exterior flaws are a pair of dents on the lower edge of the trunk, the right side dent can be seen in the gallery above and behind the headlights. Lighting and chrome trim all appear to be in excellent condition.

Like many cars of this type, production line changes even within the same model year could be relatively substantial. Unlike the last 4CV we offered (which previously belonged to this seller as well), this car has a more substantial dash with the instrument cluster positioned ahead of the steering wheel.

The car is fitted with simple rubber mats, and the upholstery appears to be in excellent condition. The seller believes the headliner and seats to be original material.

This car is fitted with a 747cc four cylinder making twenty two and one half horsepower mated to a 3-speed manual gearbox. Per the seller the shifter feels very tight and precise, and the engine runs well without even minor leaks. The 4CV was fitted with fairly quick steering, and only takes about two turns of the wheel from lock to lock. The engine bay remains very tidy, with clean painted surfaces and stock looking wiring.

The underside appears very straight, and per the seller shows no evidence of past rust repair. Though some bolt heads and nuts show light oxidation, other surfaces show clean and dry black paint.
