Paying homage to one of Porsche’s most legendary historic race cars, this 550 Spyder replica was built by JPS Motorsports of California in 2021. It wears a traditional Silver Metallic finish and derives up to 120 HP from an air-cooled 2.0-liter engine. Driven less than 700 miles since completion, this 550 Spyder replica has been freshly serviced and is now being offered for auction by its seller out of New Jersey.
Hand-laid over a 3" mandrel bent tube chassis, the steel-reinforced fiberglass bodywork is finished in Silver Metallic with gold Porsche lettering and Spyder badges. Equipment includes an aerodynamic driver-side mirror, central exhaust outlet, leather bonnet straps, twin engine grilles, and a central hood-mounted fuel filler. The 15” slotted steel wheels come dressed in a set of new Cooper CS5 Ultra Touring tires. Detailed images are provided in the gallery.
The cockpit is lined with grey square weave carpeting and features burgundy leather upholstery including quilted door panel inserts and Speedster-style bucket seats. Accessories include a wood-rimmed three-spoke steering wheel, lap belts, a Porsche-crested gear knob, drilled aluminum pedals, and classic 356-style instrumentation with green markings and silver-capped pivot pins.
The Beetle-derived flat-four carbureted engine displaces 2,110cc and is claimed to produce over 120 HP. The heads have been ported, polished, and rebuilt with stainless steel valves, hardened valve guides, alloy pushrods, and Chevy aluminum connecting rods. Power is sent to the rear wheels through a Pre-Street HD 4-speed manual gearbox while stopping power comes from disc brakes at all corners. This replica is equipped with KYB shocks and adjustable rear trailing arms, an external oil cooler, and an upgraded adjustable ball joint front suspension with Spec shocks. The seller states that a full service was recently completed in preparation for the next owner.
