This 1955 Mercury Montclair two-door hardtop was acquired by the owner in Florida in 2019 and is powered by a 292ci V8 paired with a Merc-O-Matic three-speed automatic transmission. The car is finished in black over red and white upholstery and additional equipment includes rear wheel skirts, a hood ornament, chrome bumpers, a Continental Kit, a deluxe steering wheel, a driver-side spotlight, a push-button radio, and a rear speaker. Work under current ownership is said to have included rebuilding the Holley carburetor and converting the car to a 12-volt electrical system. This Montclair is offered by the seller in Texas on behalf of the current owner with manufacturer’s literature, two keys, partial service records, and a clean Washington State title in the owner’s name.
The car left the factory finished in Tuxedo Black and is said to have been repainted in the 1980s. Exterior features include rear wheel skirts, a hood ornament, hooded headlights, driving lights, dual side mirrors, and chrome bumpers. Close-up images of exterior blemishes are provided in the gallery.
Red-finished steel wheels feature chrome covers with red accents and are mounted with whitewall tires, and the car was optioned with the Continental Kit, which added a full-size spare in a hard cover mounted to the rear bumper. Additional equipment includes power steering, and power-assisted four-wheel drum brakes.
The front and rear bench seats are trimmed in red and white vinyl and cloth upholstery. Amenities include a driver-side spotlight, a push-button radio, and a rear speaker. The seller states the clock is nonfunctional.
The chrome and beige two-spoke Deluxe steering wheel features a chrome horn ring and frames a 120-mph speedometer and supplementary gauges. The five-digit mechanical odometer shows 52k miles, approximately 1k of which were added under current ownership.
The 292ci V8 is equipped with a beige-finished air cleaner and valve covers as well as a Holley carburetor that is said to have been recently rebuilt. Additional work under current ownership reportedly included converting the car to a 12-volt electrical system, performing a tune-up, cleaning and gapping the spark plugs, and changing the engine oil. The seller states the windshield washer pump is inoperative.
Power is sent to the rear wheels through a Merc-O-Matic three-speed automatic transmission. The transmission seals were replaced in 2019.
