1953 Citroen Traction Avant 11B

This 1953 Citroën Traction Avant 11B is a European-specification example that is said to have been used as a taxi in Spain before being imported to the US. Repainted in blue with black fenders in the 1990s, the car is powered by a 1.9-liter inline-four paired with a three-speed manual transaxle. The interior has been reupholstered in black vinyl, and additional equipment includes a louvered hood, 400mm wheels, driving lights, and an air horn. The selling dealer acquired the car out of long-term ownership in 2023, and work performed in preparation for the sale included replacing portions of the floors and changing the engine oil. This Traction Avant is now offered with a Pennsylvania title.

The 11B was the long-wheelbase version of the Traction Avant, and 1953 saw the introduction of an extended, top-hinged trunk lid. This example was repainted in blue with black fenders in 1998, and portions of the floor were repaired in preparation for the sale. Exterior details include a louvered hood, a pop-out windshield, yellow-lens driving lights, coach front doors, and aluminum rock guards. An air horn is mounted below the front bumper, and an auxiliary brake light and a reverse light are present out back. Areas of prior rust repairs are noted, and paint flaws and blemishes around the car can be viewed in the gallery.

Cream-finished 400mm steel wheels wear two-tone hubcaps and are mounted with older 165-series Michelin X tires. The car is equipped with rack-and-pinion steering as well as an independent wishbone front suspension, and stopping power is provided by four-wheel drum brakes. Paint chips are visible on the wheels and hubcaps.

The two-spoke steering wheel fronts a 150-km/h Jaeger speedometer with an inset fuel gauge and ammeter, while Stewart Warner gauges for oil pressure and coolant temperature have been added on the left side of the dashboard. The five-digit odometer shows 88k kilometers (~55k miles), and the total mileage is unknown.

The 1.9-liter inline-four is mounted longitudinally behind the transaxle and features a single Solex carburetor and a remote spin-on oil filter. The engine is said to have been rebuilt using a block from a 1956 ID19. An oil change was performed in preparation for the sale.
