1951 Pontiac Chieftain Deluxe Catalina Hardtop

This 1951 Pontiac Chieftain Deluxe Catalina hardtop is finished in red over an ivory and red interior and is powered by a 268ci inline-eight paired with a column-shifted three-speed manual transmission. The car was reportedly purchased from the original owner by the seller’s father in 2005 and subsequently refurbished. It was acquired by the seller in 2020 and is equipped with Guide fog lamps, a windshield visor, a heater, a push-button AM radio, and a Fulton traffic light finder. The oil was recently changed. This Chieftain Catalina is now offered with manufacturer’s literature, a Chieftain-branded key holder, car show awards, and a clean New Jersey title in the seller’s name.

The body was finished Tripoli Red from the factory and reportedly received a two-stage repaint by the seller’s father. Exterior features include stainless-steel gravel guards, front bumper-mounted Guide fog lights, a Chieftain hood ornament with an amber lucite insert, and a chrome grille, trim, and bumpers with overriders. Chieftain emblems are affixed to the rear quarter panels and front grille, and “Pontiac Eight” badges are present on each door. The radio antenna is broken.

Black-finished steel wheels feature polished wheel covers with red Chieftain logos and wear wide whitewall tires. Braking is handled by four-wheel drums.

The interior features red and ivory upholstery on the front and rear bench seats, which are accompanied by matching two-tone door panels and tan carpeting. The seller states that the seat upholstery was replaced during his father’s ownership. Interior amenities include heater, a locking glovebox, a Fulton traffic light finder, a center mirror-mounted compass, and a push-button AM radio.

The three-spoke steering wheel wears a Chieftain horn button and fronts a red and red and beige-finished steel dash that houses a 100-mph speedometer along with gauges measuring battery charge, fuel level, oil pressure, and coolant temperature. An analog clock is positioned above the radio within the central speaker grille on the dash. The five-digit odometer shows 65k miles, and total mileage is unknown. The oil pressure and fuel level gauges do not work.

The 268ci L-head inline-eight was rated from the factory at 116 horsepower when new and sends power to the rear wheels through a column-shifted three-speed manual transmission. The oil was changed in preparation for the sale.
