1950 Porsche 356 Pre-A 1100
German registration document
Chassis No. 5227
Engine No. P-0177
- The 188th copy produced
- Recent high quality restoration
- Original colors
According to its "Kardex" manufacturing document, this car left the factory on October 14, 1950, making it one of the first examples produced and the most sought after by connoisseurs. Indeed, the Porsche 356 was unveiled at the 1949 Geneva Motor Show and the first examples were marketed during 1950. The example presented is the 188th assembled and was delivered new on October 14, 1950. It is the company " Südbad Automobilgesellschaft." of Freiburg in Germany who acquired it, then the car returned to the factory for an inspection at 1706 km, on April 6, 1951. Numerous documents then testify to various changes of ownership in Germany, then in Austria. Its current owner, a great collector and connoisseur of the model, acquired it in 2014, then gave it a complete, high-quality restoration, as demonstrated by photos. The bodywork, completely stripped, then refinished, is repainted in its elegant original black color (nitrocellulose paint), while the passenger compartment has an interior in dark red cloth, as when it left the factory. The original engine, which bore the number 0228, was already no longer on the car in 1964, but a similar engine, with a two-piece block, was completely rebuilt and installed in the car. Obviously, the running gear has been restored, as has the electrical circuit. The result is very beautifully made and particularly highlights this historically interesting example which has only traveled 6 km since its resurrection. A true museum piece, and accompanied by numerous documents, this 356 deserves to join an elitist collection.

The Porsche 356 was presented at the 1949 Geneva Motor Show, and the first examples were sold during 1950. The example presented here is therefore the 188th car built and was delivered new on October 14, 1950. Numerous papers then document the different changes of ownership in Germany and later in Austria. Its current owner, a leading collector and connoisseur of the model, acquired the car in 2014 and had a complete, high-quality restoration carried out, as can be seen from the photos. The body was completely stripped bare, before being restored and resprayed in its original elegant black (using nitrocellulose paint), while the interior was retrimmed in dark red cloth, just as when it left the factory. The original engine (no. 228) was no longer with the car in 1964, but a similar engine, with a block in 2 parts, was entirely rebuilt and installed in the car. Naturally, the running gear and electrical system were restored. The result is to a very high standard and sets off this historically interesting example particularly well; it has covered only 6km since it was brought back to life. A true museum piece, supplied with numerous documents, this 356 deserves to join a very select collection.
