1946 Packard Deluxe Clipper Eight Touring Sedan

This 1946 Packard Deluxe Clipper Eight touring sedan is powered by a 282ci straight-eight paired with a three-speed column-shifted manual transmission with overdrive and is finished in two-tone blue over blue cloth upholstery. The car underwent a refurbishment in 1998 that is said to have involved rebuilding the engine, replacing interior components, and repainting the body. Appointments include wheel covers, quarter windows, a clock, a heater, wraparound grille-extension bars, and Packard-branded floor mats. The seller acquired the car from a friend in 2009 and has since added approximately 1,500 miles. This 21st-series Deluxe Clipper is now offered with manufacturer’s literature, service records, and a California title in the seller’s name.

The car was refinished in two-tone blue in 1998 and has a chrome grille, bumpers, and trim. Exterior features include opening quarter windows, a two-piece windshield, a fender-mounted antenna, and “Deluxe Clipper” badging. Trim ahead of the front wheels is intended to visually widen the lower grille.

Steel 15″ wheels wear polished Packard hubcaps and are mounted with Denman Classic IV whitewall tires. A spare is stored in the trunk. Stopping power is provided by drum brakes.

The front and rear bench seats are upholstered in blue cloth, and bright trim accents the woodgrain-style dashboard and window frames. Amenities include a cabin heater, a push-button AM radio, an analog clock, a rear robe cord, and blue Packard-branded rubber floor mats. The seller states that various interior components were replaced during the 1998 refurbishment.

The three-spoke steering wheel has a horn ring and fronts a 110-mph speedometer and supplementary gauges. The five-digit odometer shows 2,300 miles, approximately 1,500 of which were added under current ownership. Actual mileage is unknown.

The 282ci L-head straight-eight features a Carter carburetor and is said to have been rebuilt during the refurbishment. The seller notes that the engine has vapor-locked on hot days.

Power is sent to the rear wheels through a column-shifted three-speed manual transmission with Borg Warner overdrive.

Service records and manufacturer’s literature will accompany the vehicle.

The car is titled in California using the engine number F304410. Identification plates located elsewhere on the vehicle denote the chassis number as 16124406 and the body number as 16124367.
