This 1940 Cadillac Series 62 convertible sedan is finished in Chicory Green over tan leather with a black canvas top and is powered by a 346ci V8 mated to a three-speed manual transmission. This Cadillac is believed to be a California car originally and later came to the East Coast. It reportedly was subject to a body-on restoration in 2004 and more recently has been serviced by Stone Barn Automobile Restoration of New Jersey. The car has completed several Classic Car Club of America tours, most recently in Saratoga Springs, New York in May 2019, after which the current owner purchased the car. This Cadillac is now offered on dealer consignment with a clean New Jersey title.
1940 was the second-to-last year for the convertible sedan body style, and the Series 62 rides on a 129″ wheelbase. Two sets of louvers adorn the engine-cover side panels, and sealed-beam headlamps and turn indicators were standard equipment. The car also has dual outside mirrors.
This car reportedly was repainted in 2004, and a black canvas top is fitted. The 16″ steel wheels wear chrome hubcaps and are mounted with Hankook LT 215/85 wide whitewall tires. A boot for the convertible top is included in the sale and shown in the photo gallery below.
With front and rear bench seats, the Series 62 convertible sedan seats six. The rear seat features a fold-down center armrest, and lap belts have been added. A radio and a heater are among the factory options, and the three-speed manual transmission features a column shifter.
The Art Deco–style dashboard includes a 100-mph speedometer. The five-digit odometer shows 14k miles, and true mileage is unknown.
The 90-degree L-head V8 displaces 346 cubic inches and features three main bearings. The selling dealer reportedly replaced the fan belt, the generator belt, and the fan bearing.
