1937 Cadillac Series 60 Five-Passenger Touring Coupe

  • A special-ordered Fleetwood “limousine coupe”
  • Reportedly one of just two known to exist
  • Exceptional original and unrestored condition
  • Classic Car Club of America (CCCA) Full Classic

Nothing bespeaks Classic Era opulence like a massive coupe, and few fit the bill better than the five-passenger touring coupe, Fleetwood style number 6011, on the 1937 Cadillac Series 60 chassis. This body was literally a two-door sedan, as Fleetwood took a sedan body, and simply cut out larger front doors and no rear doors; the interior featured a sedan’s rear seat and capacious legroom, with an armchair for the driver and a folding jump seat alongside. The intention was that the car would be chauffeur-driven, with a maid or valet accompanying the jump seat.

Such was the rarity of this body style that it appears to have been available only by special order. Nothing like it appears in any of the factory literature for 1937, nor in any of the reference books that have been published since. The current owner believes that up to 11 examples may have been produced, though just two remain in existence, both of which, interestingly enough, were originally delivered in Connecticut – indicating that they may have been an East Coast dealer’s specialty.

The example offered here, one of the two survivors, still carries its original engine, as well as the original delivery tag noting its supply on 9 April 1937, to Walter H. Clark of 49 Woodland Street in Hartford. Judge Clark was a local jurist and former member of the Connecticut House of Representatives, and his palatial Gothic Revival home still stands today. Equally well preserved, his Cadillac retains its full original paint and interior. While there is much patina, the car is solid and would be an ideal AACA Historic Preservation of Original Features (HPOF) or concours Preservation Class entrant.

The buyer seeking a truly special Cadillac should look no further, for this Series 60 Touring Coupe is hard to miss!
