Court Teardrop Coupe

HIGHLIGHTS

This 1936 Delahaye Type 135 Competition Court Teardrop Coupe is a breathtaking work of automotive art. With coachwork by Figoni et Falaschi, it's a masterpiece of design and engineering. Here are some of the highlights that make it truly exceptional:

This stunning coupe features right-hand drive, adding to its exclusivity. What sets it apart even further is its lightweight "Goutte D'Eau" style coupe with a sunroof. Notably, it's the only 1936 Delahaye Type 135 with headlamps integrated between the front fenders, showcasing the bespoke nature of this car.

The Type 135 Competition Court was a homologation special, created for a select group of loyal Delahaye customers. The competition court chassis, which did not appear in Delahaye's official literature, was sold as a bare chassis. Customers would then send it to a coachbuilder for a custom lightweight body, catering to racing enthusiasts.

Chassis No. 47242 was fitted with special competition components that set it apart from other models. These included a 4-speed manual transmission, outside-mounted rear springs, a low-mounted engine, an oil cooler below the radiator, and a racing-style fuel tank with dual fillers. These features emphasized its racing potential.

Delivered new to the Delahaye factory and retained as a demonstrator, this car has a unique historical connection to the brand. It's not just a vehicle but a piece of Delahaye's heritage.

Body No. 609 of this car is distinct from the other five examples, boasting a slightly different bonnet and a single row of hood louvers. The steel body features aluminum components, including the bonnet, boot, fenders, doors, and bumpers. The result is a visually stunning and aerodynamic design.

Over the years, this Delahaye Teardrop Coupe has collected numerous awards and accolades. It's a testament to its exceptional design, style, and historical significance. These awards include the Class Award at the 2001 Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance, Best of Show at the 2003 Celebration of Automobiles at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, Best of Show at the 2003 Concours d'Elegance of Texas, and Best of Show and People's Choice at the 2014 Cobble Beach Concours d'Elegance in Ontario.

Additionally, it was displayed in the "Art in Automobiles" exhibit at the 2015 Canadian International Auto Show in Toronto, solidifying its status as a true work of art.

In summary, the 1936 Delahaye Type 135 Competition Court Teardrop Coupe is a masterpiece of automotive design and craftsmanship. With its unique features, bespoke body, and impressive awards, it stands as a symbol of the golden age of automobile design and innovation.
